The story of the Müller family
The Müller family has been at home in Schwangau since 1660. At that time Erasmus Müller, the first miller of the family in Schwangau, lived here. He was a Ludimagister – today we would call him a schoolteacher. Around 1799, the property in Schwangau was exchanged for a property in Hohenschwangau. In 1882, the house in Hohenschwangau was enlarged. In 1890, Josef Müller took over the property and the new house was built in 1893.
The family had been farming for a long time and by 1905 there were around 36 horses in the stables. During the Passion Plays in Oberammergau, there were even 60 horses. In 1910, the farm moved to the country house in Colomanstraße, as the old house was being converted into a guesthouse, which opened in the same year.
In 1909, the house was converted and extended. This new guesthouse was later expanded into a hotel and has since been known as the ‘Hotel Müller’ for its hospitality, warm service and rich history.
In addition to accommodation, the hotel also offers a restaurant with a wide range of breakfast options and a delicious dinner. If you would like to bring something back for your loved ones at home, you can browse and get advice in the Müller boutique or Müller souvenir shop.
The era of the guesthouse
at the royal court
At the turn of the 20th century, a charming guest house was built next to the idyllic farmhouse, which was mainly used in the summer months and mainly served guests of the royal court at Hohenschwangau Castle. At that time, the Bavarian Prince Regent Luitpold resided in Hohenschwangau after ascending the throne in 1886 following the mysterious death of his nephew, King Ludwig II of Bavaria.
